Personally, I would never consider having surgery without having hypnosis before the procedure. The mind has everything to do with the healing of the body, and the perception of pain and discomfort. The success of a surgery and the subsequent recovery and reduction in discomfort can only be enhanced by hypnosis. In fact, one of the earliest uses of hypnosis was in the control of surgical pain (before chemical anesthesia was developed). The use of hypnosis in surgery has a 200 year old history. In fact, most people are surprised to learn that hundreds of thousands of surgeries of every kind have been performed with hypnosis as the only anesthetic! And that in routine surgeries, the effectiveness of hypnosis is 89%!!! Well, I'd go for an 89% positive outcome anytime, if someone was going to stick a knife in me! Study: Anesthesia & Analgesia Journal Now, I would never suggest that you have hypnosis as the primary anesthesia for surgery unless you have an allergy or intolerance for chemical anesthesia, though hypnosis is the best choice (the only choice) for that condition. What I would suggest is that hypnosis has been proven as a technology for accelerating healing, and minimizing discomfort following surgical procedures.
