| OVERCOME FEARS AND PHOBIAS |
|
People can develop fears or phobias about almost anything. The most common is Performance Anxiety Click here to go to my page on Performance Anxiety). The fear of heights is very common. Fear of flying, fear of insects (bees, spiders, etc.), fear of mice, fear of needles, fear of dentists, fear of doctors, fear of driving, fear of blood, fear of taking tests (click here to go to my page on Test Anxiety). Fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia) is a common fear or phobia. Some people are even afraid of clowns. The list is nearly endless. There are hundreds of fears and phobias that have been given fancy Latin names by psychiatrists. A FEAR is something that makes you very uncomfortable to do, but you can do it. A PHOBIA is something that you are so terrified of that you CANNOT do it...no matter what. Example: If you are nervous and anxious about flying in an airplane, but you can get on that plane and make it to your destination, you have a fear of flying. If you can't get on the plane, you have a phobia of flying. Fears and Phobias are Learned
We are born with only two fears: fear of falling and fear of sudden loud noises. Every human baby has these two fears at birth. All other fears and phobias have been learned. Fears and phobias demonstrate the remarkable ability of the Unconscious Mind to learn. In most cases, the Unconscious Mind learns the fear or phobic response the instant a person is exposed to a threatening situation, when that person lacks the resources to effectively deal with that situation. And it holds that learning permanently, and generalizes that learning to apply to ever broadening contexts (that means it gets worse) . And the Unconscious Mind never forgets to create the fear/phobic response. Amazing, isn't it, you can't remember where you left your car keys, but you never, ever forget to be gripped by that thing that grips you. The response is a program, and it is locked in. You can tell yourself over and over again that the response is silly, doesn't make sense, is embarrassing, and on and on. Makes no difference. What has been Learned can be Unlearned!
Hypnosis is the best and fastest way to change Unconscious Mind programs. Phobias can usually be overcome in one or two sessions! Fears can take a few more sessions. It seems amazing that a problem that has been around for years, and is so strong, can be eliminated so quickly, however the success rate of the techniques that I use is extremely high, and in the unlikely event that the problem ever comes back. I'll do a refresher session at no cost. Traditional psychotherapy using Cognitive Behavioral approaches, or Systematic Desensitization can take many months to be effective, cost a lot (even if you are only paying insurance co-pays),and has a high relapse rate. I have helped many people to get over fear of heights, fear of elevators, fear of flying, claustrophobia, and many other limiting fears and phobias.
